Lets Eat!!!
Throughout my years at Southern Guilford, I have came to the realization, that LUNCH, is everyones favorite class of the day.I can say I that I am one of those people. I've seen people running like their being chased by dogs, just to make it to lunch. I've also seen people almost fight over who would get their plate first, or would be next in line. Breaking/Fronting is most common at Southern, and it is really childish, but, our principals Mr.Gibson & Mr. Seegraves, are sure to shut that down.Another problem is, the fact that we have to wait so long for food, I feel like we should have more than one lunch lady at the counter. The food isn't even all that great to be honest, but I can make an exception. One of my favorite days of the week is fry day, that's the ONLY day I am satisfied.Overall, the cafeteria is kept really spic and span. If I had to grade Southern on its food quality and sanitation, I would give them a C in quality, and a A+ in sanitation.

SMOD
SMOD, what can I say, no one likes it, especially me. Unfortunately, once again, parents and teachers got their way and helped enforce it. SMOD stands for Standard Mode of Dress. The majority of Guilford County Schools have SMOD. Others, well they have a lot of freedom.I think the reason why SMOD was even enforced was because adults feel like us teenagers don't dress "appropriately" for school, maybe their right, maybe their wrong. They were tired of seeing exposed chest areas, tight pants, short shorts, skirts, whatever, and most of all "sagging'. I personally don't want to see that, but we still do.We do have some type of freedom, because we can wear almost any color shirt (except blue). I feel like SMOD doesn't work because students are still walking around sagging and whatnot. We still have our own individual swags, with or without SMOD. It makes us look more professional, I mean we all are wearing the same thing.
Mathematics!!!
Well first off I want to say that Math, was one of my worst subjects. I didn't understand it, never have, never will. Fortunately,I passed all of my Math classes so far,so I was very grateful after that. According to the Webster's Dicitonary: Mathematics is the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generations, and a bunch of other complicated words. But, all Math really is, is expanding your mind by learning how to use numbers and solve problems. You have to use Math in everyday life, and mist career choices deal with Math. I personally struggled with Math throughout my high school years, but I knew I needed Math to graduate so I pushed as hard as I could, and I passed every class.Bridge Math, Algebra I &II, Geometry, Trigonometry, AFM ,and Tech Math are just the few of the many math classes that Southern has to offer.

Academics
What would a school be without its basic courses? I can answer that question for you. That school would fall apart, and most of its students would probably drop out. Fortunately, that is not the case at Southern Guilford High. We might not have the best students (or teachers), but we still manage to keep up with the qualifications and standards of the district. The students at Southern work hard and stay focused to maintain their grades. The teachers stand close to guide them and motivate them towards the road ahead. The students then use this guidance to proceed into college and get ready for the business world.

Volleyball
Not only did the Girls Varsity Volleyball team demonstrate teamwork, they proved that girls can dominate sports as well as guys. They won over half of their games, and finished the season as the top volleyball team. Most oustanding playey was Ms. Karley Hyatt, winning almost every point for her team. Good job girl! The volleyball team showed hard work, persperation and great effort, and they serve as an example of how a team, can come together as a family.

Football!!
LETS GO SG!!!!!
The SGHS Varsity Football Team has put in 100% effort in working hard to make it to the top, and they proved just that. They finished the 2011 season off with a bang with an overall score record of 8 – 2 ( 8 wins, 2 losses) , and a conference record of 4-1 allowing them to receive the Mid – Piedmont 3A Conference Championship. They wouldn't have gotten that if it weren't for the students and cheerleaders at SGHS cheering them on at the pep rallies and games. The football also has Coach Brown to thank for motivating them and pushing them into the next level.Fantastic job guys! Keep up the good work!
Sports!!!
Sports is a major importance at SGHS. Many famous star athletes have made it big in the professional world, all because they played their hardest in high school, and they never gave up. Students that have graduated from this school received scholarships to some of the top universities and colleges, expanding their chances of making it ot the pros. Their are many sports opportunities at Southern. Such as : Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Track/Cross Country, Golf, Tennis, and Baseball/Softball. These fields are then categorized into either Varsity of Junior Varsity (JV).
Southern History!!!
Every school has its own story, especially Southern Guilford High School. Southern Guilford High School was founded in 1930 in a small area called Sumner in Guilford County (Whoa!). We have 4 classes a semester (two semesters total).Whereas back in the day, they had up to six classes each semester. Times have changed huh?Our current principal is Mr.Gibson, he makes sure nothing gets out of hand. Our school colors are maroon & gold, and in 2004 our mascot was changed from The Indians to a Storm, because of ethnic issues. In 2005, Southern was turned into a magnet school, students are able to take AP and Honors classes. Most of these students attend Southern Guilford Academy. And yes, we still have our dress code. : )
